WORKING WITH CHRISTIAN SCHOOLS
WHAT ARE AP QUALIFICATIONS?
Advanced Placement (AP) qualifications are internationally recognised and highly respected by universities in the UK, the United States, and many other countries. For academically ambitious students, AP courses provide a rigorous programme of study that demonstrates both academic ability and intellectual commitment. They are widely accepted by leading universities and can offer an excellent pathway to higher education.
Are APs for homeschoolers or schools?
Dumb Ox Learning works primarily with homeschoolers, but we are increasingly partnering with schools as well. We are not seeking to encourage home education among your families. In fact, AP courses are used predominantly within schools, both in the UK and internationally.
Many international schools in the UK offer AP courses, and the majority of AP exams taken in both the UK and the US are by students enrolled in schools. AP is a well-established school-based qualification that provides students with access to rigorous university-level study while they are still in secondary education.
One of the greatest strengths of the AP programme is its flexibility.
Students can complete three APs over a single year, which is broadly comparable to three A Levels. Alternatively, they can spread their studies over two years, allowing them to pursue a wider range of opportunities alongside their academic work.
This creates space for the experiences that make schools distinctive: work experience, leadership opportunities, sport, music, art, worship, service projects, language study, computing, and other enrichment activities.
Rather than narrowing a student's education, APs can help create a broader and more balanced sixth-form experience.
For example, if you have a biology teacher and several students interested in AP Biology, we could provide guidance and support to help you establish the course. Once the system is understood, the process is relatively straightforward. This could be something to work towards in the second year of offering APs, even if it is not practical immediately.

Are your courses online?
Yes. All teaching is delivered online by our experienced subject specialists, committed Christians educators who are based around the world.
Dumb Ox Learning would provide:
A one-hour live Zoom lesson each week.
A dedicated Google Classroom for each course.
Access to extensive AP resources, including teaching videos, automatically marked quizzes, and assignments marked by the subject teacher.
Additional subject-specific activities and resources, where appropriate.
Weekly reading assignments and guidance on supplementary materials.
Ongoing academic teaching, feedback, and subject guidance.
Students do not require specialist subject support from your staff. However, experience shows that students achieve the best outcomes when they receive regular encouragement and accountability from their school. We therefore recommend that the school provides dedicated study time during the week for AP work and appoints a member of staff who can monitor progress, encourage students, and help them stay organised.
For academically ambitious students, AP courses provide a rigorous programme of study that demonstrates both academic ability and intellectual commitment. They are widely accepted by leading universities and can offer an excellent pathway to higher education.
Students can enrol directly through our website, or we can arrange a group enrolment process through your school. Once enrolled, students receive a booklist and preparatory information. Teachers make contact in early August, and classes begin at the end of August.
We would be delighted to arrange a conversation and explore how AP courses might fit within your school's vision and provision.
