Course Description
The Bible describes King David as “a man after God’s own heart” (1 Sam 13:14). But what does it mean to become a boy after God’s own heart? In this course, you’ll discover the answer lies not only in growth in virtue and faith in Jesus, but also in reading history, climbing mountains, building forts, and being ready for spiritual and physical battle. Inspired by The Dangerous Book for Boys, this entertaining and interactive boys-only course will take you on an epic journey into the heart of what it means to be a Christian boy. Activities covered in each session will be things like: discussing historical battles, constructing weapons and LEGO sets, sharing favourite books, memorizing epic poems, reading about biblical heroes, and planning adventures for the great outdoors, as well as a weekly Kahoot quiz on a topic chosen by the boys.
John Fortune is a Christian home-educating dad from the south-east of Ireland. He has worked as an adventure guide in several countries, a tree surgeon, youth worker and, more recently, coordinating a Social Care project specialising in Adventure Therapy with teenage boys. He has Degrees in Health & Leisure, Arboriculture and Professional Social Care.
In his spare time, John likes mountain biking and building boats, paddles and Viking axes. He loved the way Clement handled the group and taught them things. He preferred the boys’ summer book club as it was focused on books, but he enjoys the dangerous boys club too. He has been more motivated to do the assignments on his own, and specifically to type things for the assignment. His knowledge of Greek myths has improved! Great to expose the boys to another teaching voice, a chance to hang out (virtually!) with boys their age, and to give them an interest in a broad spectrum of topics.
