Course Overview
AP Precalculus introduces students to the study of functions and mathematical modelling, preparing them for higher-level mathematics and science courses, including AP Calculus. Following the framework set by the College Board, students develop confidence in analysing and interpreting mathematical relationships using graphical, numerical, analytical, and verbal representations.
The course places strong emphasis on problem-solving, communication, and applying mathematics to real-world situations.

- Polynomial and Rational Functions
- Exponential and Logarithmic Functions
- Trigonometric and Polar Functions
Workload and Expectations
Students should expect regular weekly practice to build fluency and confidence with mathematical concepts and problem-solving techniques.(Minimum 1hour per day Mon-Fri). Homework, independent study, and consistent review are essential for success in the course.
Exam Overview
The AP Precalculus exam is three hours long and consists of:
- 50 multiple-choice questions
- 4 free-response questions
- Calculator and non-calculator sections
The exam assesses procedural fluency, mathematical reasoning, modelling, and the ability to interpret functions in multiple forms.
Prerequisites
Students wishing to complete AP Precalculus must have completed Algebra 2 and Geometry or Integrated Maths 3.
Students will also need a TI-83 or 84 or equivalent AP approved calculator for use throughout the course and the exam.

AP Precalculus is ideal for students considering further study in mathematics, engineering, computer science, economics, physics, or other STEM-related subjects.
