Dr. Rogelio Caballero teaches a dynamic course covering the foundations of college-level differential and integral calculus, aligned with the AP Calculus AB curriculum. The course develops strong problem-solving skills through the identification and correct application of appropriate solution techniques. Students learn to justify each step logically and to communicate results clearly using the precise language of mathematics, preparing them for success on the AP examination and in future mathematics study.
Prerequisites
Students should have successfully completed courses in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, analytic geometry, and elementary functions. They are expected to understand the properties of linear, polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic, trigonometric, inverse trigonometric, and piecewise-defined functions, and to be able to graph these functions and solve equations involving them. Familiarity with algebraic transformations, combinations, compositions, and inverses of general functions is also required.
Course Workload
The course includes a weekly live online Zoom session with the teacher, alongside structured assignments on AP Classroom and supplementary practice using Khan Academy. Students submit homework each week, which is carefully marked to support understanding and steady progress. Around four hours of independent work per week should be anticipated.
AP Calculus AB and BC
The primary difference between this course and AP Calculus BC is that the BC curriculum also includes polar coordinates, parametric equations, vector-valued functions, and infinite sequences and series. Students who wish to prepare for the AP Calculus BC examination may arrange additional tuition with Dr. Caballero to cover this extended material.
