Dr. Simon Lubbock provides a dynamic and engaging AP Biology course that combines academic rigour with a Christian worldview. With over 20 years of teaching experience and is a practicing hospital doctor, Dr Lubbock guides students through key topics, including genetics, cell biology, ecosystems, and evolution. This one-year, college-level course offers a clear, structured pathway to AP exam success—brought to life with clarity, humour, and deep respect for the wonders of creation. Ideal for homeschoolers seeking a serious, faith-informed approach to science.
The course will closely follow the College Board’s AP Biology preparation framework, details of which can be found through the AP Central website (https://apcentral.collegeboard.org/courses/ap-biology) and use many of its AP Classroom online resources and tools, including free formative assessments throughout the year to measure progress. The exam itself is a 3-hour exam that includes 60 multiple-choice questions and 6 free-response questions. The focus is not on memorised material but on the analysis, interpretation, and evaluation of experimental results, and the well-written explanations of important biological concepts and content they support.(Note: Practical labs are not part of this course)

The thoroughness and systematic buildup of the course is gradual and very doable without being underwhelming. Because the teacher is very knowledgeable, very supportive and helpful. He explains things in a very understandable and clear way that does not lack detail or thoroughness. He is also always encouraging students to share their questions and gives satisfactory and helpful answers. I always feel comfortable reaching out or asking things that I feel unsure about, whether it’s related to the material or the syllabus.

Dr. Lubbock always gives lots of examples, which really helps to understand what is happening, and also encourages lots of student participation, which is great and makes the class more interesting. Also, he tells us which things we actually need to learn really well to do the exam, and which stuff are just additional information.
