AP Art History

About Instructor

Course Overview

Have you ever met someone who seemed to somehow grasp a cohesive “flow” of history, rather than see history as a chopped-up series of events splattered on a timeline? Did you ever want to have that for yourself (or your student)? AP Art History is an effective and fun way to get there. The AP Art History involves quite a bit of memorization, such as image recognition, artist name, and time period/date. Once you’ve memorized these basics, you now have a visual framework by which you can “mentally hang” all other events in
history around when the art was created, if you so choose. You’ve got your own visual slideshow of history that you can take anywhere you go. To this end, in my Art History course, I will also be encouraging students to memorize at least one optional historical event with each piece of artwork they learn. This will have a double effect in not only
making it easier to learn the art but also helping you have a better grasp of history overall. Of course, there’s the part of the course I find most fun: understanding the art. We’ll learn some about mediums and do some art interpretation, too. I’d love to have some lively Socratic-style discussions, but those aren’t as fun without enough of you. So, consider joining us, and let me know if I can answer any questions!
